Bearings Information

A bearing is a mechanical element that reduces friction between parts and allows those parts to carry load without undue wear. Rotary bearings hold shafts or axles in place. Factors to consider when specifying a bearing are things such as load, speed, play, stiffness, service life and lubrication requirements.

Ball bearings and roller bearings hold a ball or roller within a circular channel or race. The bearings turn as the assembly turns, dramatically reducing friction between a shaft and its support.

Taper bearings use cone sections as the inner and outer raceways with a roller bearing between them; the roller is also a conical section. If extended the inner raceway, outer raceway and the conical sections of the roller would all meet at the same point. They are particularly suitable for supporting axial forces as well as radial forces.
